DraftKings Blackjack Strategy

Blackjack is a card game in which players compete against the dealer to have the best hand. Each player places a bet, within the table limits, and then the cards are dealt. Cards have their standard values, with the exception of face cards (King, Queen, Jack) which are worth 10, and the Ace which can be valued as either a 1 or an 11. The goal is to get your hand closer to 21 than the dealer’s without going over. If your hand is higher than the dealer’s, you win and are paid according to the table’s payout rules. If your hand is less than the dealer’s, you lose and your bet is returned to you.

If your two cards have a combined value of 12 or more, you can choose to split them into two separate hands. This is done by placing your original bet on one of the new hands and then putting an equal amount on the other hand. Then the dealer will deal another card to each of the new hands. If you have a pair of eights, for example, you should always split them against a dealer’s 2 or 3 upcard. Never split a pair of 10s or 5s, however.

When should you hit? The most common mistake when playing blackjack is to misplay soft hands. Because soft hands are less likely to bust, some players, particularly beginners, may be tempted to play them more recklessly than they should. However, the best way to avoid making this mistake is to practice counting cards. Begin by using a single deck of cards, and count them as you turn them over one by one. Then, add up the total values to keep a running total. As you gain confidence, you can progress to the more complex true count.

Another important aspect of a successful blackjack strategy is money management. It’s important to establish a bankroll for your blackjack gambling sessions, and stick to it. This will prevent you from chasing your losses and potentially putting yourself in debt. It’s also a good idea to set a session bankroll that you will take with you for each individual blackjack gaming session.
